Back in the early part of 2019, I wrote a post about a revenue sharing site called Hubpages. This is where I developed a love for writing. It is also where I started making money by writing articles online and receiving Hubpages earnings. It also happened to be my very first blog post and I’m extremely happy I wrote it.
I have 205 articles published on Hubpages. At one time my hub page author score was 95 which also meant I was pretty awesome.
When I was at my peak with Hubpages I was making a good amount of passive income every month. This was also helped by getting some good affiliate sales. The sale I remember the most and also my first big affiliate sale was when I wrote a hub about laptop bags. Someone clicked on a link and brought a laptop and bag. I made $39 while I slept.
If you have read my article about Hubpages you will have noted that there were big changes back in 2011. It was aimed to help get rid of lower quality sites and webpages. Unfortunately, it did hit Hubpages hard. Not because it is a low-quality site itself but because some of the articles being published on it were.
Hubpages made some changes and we as authors also had to make some changes in order to keep making revenue.
This post is going to tell you how to improve your HubPages earnings in 2020 and make your HubPages account the best it can be.

Why Hubpages?:
There is a variety of reasons why people choose Hubpages and not to start their own blogs or websites.
The absolute main reason I believe is that with HubPages apart from making your profile there is no effort needed on your part. You simply sign up, Use your Hubpages login, make your profile and you can start writing. There are no fees to be paid or website setup problems. Certainly, no plug-ins or code to get your head around.
This is what makes it stand out from running your own blog or website. It is super easy for technophobes. It was my first foray into writing and the fact it was so simple really helped me. I entered my Hubpages login and away I went writing content.
The second reason is again the ease of getting paid. Once you have entered your payment details with Hubpages that is about it. You can access your earnings straight from HubPages and will be told of any payouts etc.
You can add Amazon affiliation and eBay affiliation should you wish to or already have this set up and this too is super easy.
The Third reason why people tend to choose HubPages is that when you own your own blog, setting up an account with Google Adsense or other Ad networks can be a terrifying thought and people get too nervous about whether they will be accepted or not.
With Hubpages, they are affiliated with Google AdSense and the ads will automatically appear around your hub when you have published it. Occasionally there will be replaced with Hubpage’s own ad network with which you can also earn revenue.
You will have to sign up with the ad networks listed above but this is straightforward enough. You will be given an id code with which you can enter this when Hubpages prompts you. After this away you go earning ad revenue.
How To Increase Hubpages Earnings:
Well, there are various ways of doing this.
Write More:
The first is to write more. This sounds silly but it’s true. The more quality articles you write the better chance you have of them ranking. Ranking them not only highly in Hubpages but also in google. This is how your income from ad revenue will increase.
Once I got into the swing of things I would enter my Hubpages login and sometime stay logged in for 6 or 7 hours while writing away.
I wrote over 200 articles within a year or so. I’m not proud of some of them as they are not the greatest, However once you find the quality it really boosts your profile. There are around 15-20 that were consistently getting more than 100 views a month and a couple that was getting more than a thousand.
All in all these couple of Hubs that were getting thousands of views were netting me well over £100 per month every month.
So like I said although it sounds simple and it is. It works. If you write 20 Quality articles over the period of 12 months then yes you will get traffic and you will earn revenue. If you compare it to someone who has written 50 quality Hubs over the same period, I can guarantee you they will be ranking with more articles than you. They will also be getting more views and more revenue.

Catchy Title:
The first thing that anybody searching through Hubpages or Google sees is the title. It Is very important and for this reason, I suggest you do your research and come up with something very catchy that is going to make the reader want to click on it.
The site I use to help me brainstorm titles is Coschedule. It is a headline analyzer site that looks at title length and the types of words used. The site then comes up with a score for how good your title is and how good the SEO is on that title. Anything over 80 is great.
Coschedule is free to use if you just want to utilize the headline analyzer. If you want to delve further in and utilize it for marketing etc then you can but there are of course fees involved. Head over and look at Coschedule pricing and see if it is the right thing for you.
I would suggest using a headline analyzer on every Hubpage post you put out in order to increase the number of views you are getting on each post.
Referral Trackers:

Referral trackers are a great way to boost your HubPages income. The best way of doing this is to set up a referral tracker on your profile. If the person that comes to your page sets up a Hubpages account via your unique referral tracker link then you get a share of that person’s earnings once they start publishing Hubs. Great eh? It gets better.
You can actually earn extra HubPages money by adding your referral tracker to hubs that you didn’t write. You can just copy the tile and add your referral tracker and now every time someone clicks on the link and goes through to the other person’s hubs you will receive a cut of their earnings.
This is a great way of boosting your Hubpages earnings.
Search To See What Other’s Are Searching:
A great hub or article always starts with some research and of course why not search to see what most people are currently searching about.
Go to google and type in something you would love to write about and make a hub on. You can then see how many searches it is getting which will determine how popular a choice it is. If it is popular than it is obviously worth writing about.
Be warned if it Is a popular topic then you will have to make sure that your article is way better than 90 percent of the rest of the articles otherwise you may struggle to get yours seen in amongst all of the others.
If you write great informative content with great images and links to other hubs you have written which can also help then you are on your way to getting more views, as we know more views usually equals more revenue for you.
Keywords:
If you write any kind of web article, be it a website or blog post then I’m sure you have heard of SEO. SEO stands for search engine optimization and is imperative to you getting good google search results.
One of the main components of SEO is keyword research. Now keywords are any of the words that you sprinkle throughout your posts. These are the words which people may be searching for on the internet.
Keywords can be searched to see how many times they have been searched in a month. Also how competitive they are. This will give you an indication of how easy it will be to get to the top of page one on google.
One of the best ways of getting great results with keyword is to use longtail keywords.
LongTail Keywords:
Longtail keywords are a string of keywords to form a line of usually more than 3 words. For example, a great longtail keyword for this post would be “how to increase Hubpages earnings”. That would be more than 3 words to form a search term which people would be searching for.
The difference between keywords and longtail keywords is the search volume. Believe me, It is far easier to rank for the search term above than it is to rank for the keyword “Hubpages”.
You need to aim to rank for a few longtail keywords which might only have a few hundred searches per month than the high volume keyword which has thousands of searches.
So pick some longtail keywords that are in the niche you are writing about. Also ones that have say 250 searches or more per month and little to no competition. If you can rank for a few of these in one post then this Hub you have written should do well for traffic.
If it does well for traffic then you will see an increase in revenue. This is the main aim of this article.
Pictures:
Pictures paint a thousand words someone once said and it could not be more true when it comes to boosting your earnings on Hubpages.
Firstly having pictures spread out throughout your hub makes it more attractive to the eye.
You don’t want pages and pages of text without anything to break it up a little.
Secondly when you add a picture as your main hub Picture, Ie the one that people click through to get to the Hub you just wrote, it needs to be one that draws people in.
There is no point in having no picture or a really bad picture that doesn’t accurately describe the content of your post.
The image you put up will determine whether the person searching will ultimately click on your Hub post or not. If you have a great picture leading to a quality well written Hub post then this is a sure-fire way of getting the Hubpages earnings you are after.
Summary:
Hubpages and other revenue sharing sites got hit pretty hard by the 2011 Panda algorithm update. To still be around 9 years later though is testament to how well run this site is.
I have seen Hubpages earnings 2017 and Hubpages earnings 2018 and every year since I started many years ago.
It is a lot harder to make good money now but not impossible. If you are not wanting to pay for WordPress and hosting etc then this is the next best way to get your words and writing out there.

Aren’t referral trackers a thing of the past on HubPages now?
Hi Jo, Hubpages referral trackers were still active as of the beginning of February and I have had no correspondence from Hubpages to tell me different plus it looks like I am still earning from my biggest referrer. I will, of course, ask the question of Hubpages. Many thanks
