So this year has been interesting, hasn’t it? Firstly I used to do a blog income report and updates about my blog every month but as it was a new blog there didn’t tend to be much difference between one month and another especially in terms of earnings.
My full-time job was working me hard leaving me no energy or enthusiasm to work on my blog when I got home. I think this is similar for a lot of new bloggers though.
Then there was kind of a global pandemic which although meant I had 7 weeks off work through the furlough scheme it also meant it was a scary time and we were saving money hard just in case and doing stuff to the house that we never get the time to do.
So I thought perhaps it was time to give you guys a bit of an update as to where my blog is at and the money I am earning from it. Bit of a shout out to Elliott at SaveMoneySimply.com who has fired me an email asking If I could write this as it is always motivational to read other reports, even If they are earning no money as you can see that other bloggers are experiencing the highs and lows just like you.
Some of my posts may contain affiliate links. This simply means if you purchase something after clicking one of the links I may receive a commission at no extra cost to yourself. Many thanks for the continued support.
Why I Write These Updates
If your new to this blog and would like to read any of my other blogger Income reports then you can find all those reports here.
I have made these blogger income reports from day one, not only to keep myself headed towards my financial goals but also for you guys to read and hopefully gain something from, but also for myself so I can look back and see the areas I need to concentrate on.
When I started out with this blog I was looking at other blog income reports and came across Michelle Schroeder-Gardner. She runs a great Personal Finance blog called Making sense of Cents. You can find her blog Income report here
However as amazing as Michelle has done with her blog and as much as it gives me motivation, I was looking for blog income reports from beginners to see how it was going to be at the beginning of my blogging journey. It turned out there wasn’t that many. The ones I did find were a good mix of honesty, hard work, mistakes, and learning.
So to that end, I’m am going to try and be as transparent as possible so as you readers out there see not only my successes but also my failures.
2020 has been tough, Not just in the blogging world but in the real world for everyone as this stupid virus has touched nearly everyone in all kinds of ways and has changed the way we go about our lives probably for the next couple of years at least.
So what has happened with my blog since my last update? Well, my blog has stagnated somewhat in the last couple of months. Up until then, I have been writing at least 1 blog post a week which is the same amount of content I have been writing since I started this blog however my full-time job has ramped up recently and my posts have reduced to one every 2 or 3 weeks.
Luckily I belong to some very good blogging Facebook groups and have managed to reach out and get some guest posts so that’s good. If you are reading this and are thinking of writing guest posts then feel free to read my Contact Me page for more details.
So where are we at with regards to articles? Well as I said above I have struggled with content lately. I currently have 83 Articles published and another 2 in the ready to publish list, of which one is a guest post.
Despite the downturn in content, there has been a massive up-spike in terms of traffic and keyword ranking but more on that in a bit.
I also stated in my last Blog Income Report that I needed to re-write some articles and improve others in regards to SEO and I have pretty much done what I set out to achieve there.
My traffic has improved but still not as much as I would like. The good news is I know why it has improved and can actually see why. This has given me good hope for the future of this blog.
My traffic has tanked a little in the last month but I would put this down to people starting to focus on Christmas and therefore dont want to hear my sensible money-saving advice.
As you can see from above I have had that little dip in stats recently. My blog usually averages around 1400 sessions per month at around 40-50 views per day. The majority of these views are organic as well.
The reason my organic traffic has improved is that finally after over a year of blogging I am now ranking for over 2000 keywords on google with more than 150 keywords in the top 10 positions.
Social media is something I have to admit I have not done any work with this year. I have completely let it go by the wayside.
I am going to try and improve on this in the new year.
I haven’t done anything with my Facebook group, to be honest apart from putting up my weekly posts on there and that’s about it. I have had a couple of people leave and to be fair I understand as the content hasn’t been there.
At the time of writing, I have 99 members to my Facebook group and I don’t expect this to rise unless I put the effort in with it.
With Twitter, I put a little effort in with regards to following some other bloggers and commenting on some tweets. This has got me more followers though and at the time of writing, I have 97 followers. I don’t tend to use it much though apart from tweeting out my latest posts.
Since purchasing my first course from Ana at Thesheapproach.com my Pinterest skills have improved. I’m learning new skills such as creating images and how to layout my profile etc.
If you are stuck with Pinterest then I would certainly suggest checking out her course Especially with the new Pinterest changes.
As you can see above I have 1266 followers and am averaging around 45k viewers per month. This did get up to around 150k viewers but recently I have not had the time to keep creating beautiful pins every day which is what I feel you need to do to get good traction.
I have a little Pinterest experiment I shall be trying soon but I still need to create some more pins when I have the time of course.
This hasn’t changed much. I have made a few more dollars from my ads and am earning a few cents every day from them but my main goal is to increase traffic and improve SEO which is what is happening as ranked keywords have jumped from around 150 to over 2000.
My blog income report at the moment tends to be the things I am doing to grow my blog as opposed to monetize it.
I still need to organize all of my affiliates into one place. I said this in the last report and have done nothing. This can prove a long process to check to see if I have been paid from any of them.
If you are looking to start a blog and work towards being able to write your own blog income report or are unsure whether to self-host or use a third party site then I can assure you, self-hosted is the only way to really be able to monetize your site in the future. A well-monetized site can help you hit all the financial goals you may have.
Siteground is who I use but for beginners, I would recommend Bluehost as they are amongst the cheapest around and while you are just starting out it makes sense to not spend the earth on hosting. From only $3.95 per month to get started with your brand new blog.
Studiopress offers some great paid themes to make your new blog really stand out from the crowd. I personally use one of their themes and find them very easy to work with. If you are wondering mine is a theme called Foodie Pro.
If you have been reading my blog for a while you will have realized that matched betting is my speciality. I would not be writing blog income reports without it. It is one of the best side-hustles out there to make you potentially hundreds of pounds per month. Profit accumulator can help you achieve that and guide you through the first few profitable bets. EBOOKS & COURSES:
As I said at the start of this article I mentioned that I had just made my first purchase in regards to a blog course. This was the great E-Book by Ana over at ThesheApproach.com. It is a book on learning how to use Pinterest and how to grow your blog using this popular medium.
I have completed her course and I am already making some great changes. If you are looking to boost your Pinterest Profile then check out Ana’s E-book here. Below is the code to get a massive discount off of all Ana’s great books. If I’m getting results from just the Pinterest one, Imagine what you could do with the others.
If you want to achieve any kind of growth or want to hit certain financial goals and create your own blog income report with your blog then you are going to need to invest a little cash into it in order for your blog to grow.
Dont be scared just try and commit to your blog as I have done with mine. Ana’s course above didn’t cost a great deal. It was however still a financial decision I took that is already benefiting me and my blog.
So as this has been the worst year many of us can remember for a long time it feels right to include the good things that have happened on my blog and leave behind all the crap this year has dealt people.
So although content on my blog slowed the fact that my traffic and also the keywords Im ranking for, having shot up to heights I didnt think I would reach has made it all worthwhile.
I am now getting loads of emails from spammy advertising people which although it is annoying it also shows my blog is getting noticed more.
I have had some guest posts submitted and generally, everything is heading in the right direction. I feel positive for the future of my blog and have even thought about possibly in the next few years doing some kind of one-on-one mentoring for beginner bloggers. (I obviously still have lots to learn before I do that)
I will be back with another blog income report and update in January and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and new year.
