As regular readers to this blog will know, I love a side hustle. I have been doing side hustles for around 30 years now. (Age Giveaway) I have tried most of them at one point or another. But what are the best side hustles to try in 2020?
Some of the age-old side hustles still work no matter what the year. This is because they are pretty much timeless but have any new ones cropped up? There have been a few but I am still testing them at this point.
I have tried a new one recently which I think you might just like and I will highlight that one a bit further down this post.
Some of these side hustles are designed to make you a few pounds while you sit and watch television. Others need your full concentration and will make you hundreds of pounds per month.
You can combine some of these side hustles to bulk up the amount of extra cash you are making but there are a couple that pays so well you won’t need to.
I have side hustles for women, I have side jobs at home and so many online passive side hustles it will be a job just to pick where you want to start. I promise you each and every one of them will make you some kind of profit and that’s what we are after in the long run.
So here we go with my ultimate list of best side hustles for 2020. Make sure you try at least 2 or 3 and let me know how you get on as I would genuinely love to see some of you make some money.
Some of my posts may contain affiliate links. This simply means if you purchase something after clicking one of the links I may receive a commission at no extra cost to yourself. Many thanks for the continued support.
Online Side Hustles:
I can be, at times a bit of an introvert, I guess this is why blogging suits me. Although this sometimes has its limitations it is perfect for online side hustles. There is no going out into the outside world, No meeting new people. It is just you and your computer.
The extra bonus is this is the category with the most money-making side hustles. YAY!!.
So there are the little online side hustles and the big online side hustles. I am going to list them in no particular order. I am just going to throw them out there in the order they come into my head.
The ones you want to pay close attention to are any of these that are passive side hustles. These will earn you money even when you are not actively doing them.
Offer Sites:
If you have not ever ventured onto an offers site I can kind of understand. They look a little amateurish and can come off as a little spammy. I get it. What I will say is if you can ignore all that and you are quite happy to set up a second email account then you can easily make upwards of £50 in one weekend and over the course of 2 or 3 hours.
There are several of these offers sites. I will list my top ones below but first a few tips.
Like I said above you will need a second email account that you dont normally use. This is because you will get hounded with emails and you dont want these clogging up your normal account or even worse your work email.
You also need to exercise a small amount of caution when doing any of the offers which involve either betting or bingo. Also, take caution when doing any offers which give free trials.
The betting ones are ok but just make sure to read all the info. These can also make you the most guaranteed money. The free trials are also fine but you need to make sure to set a reminder on your phone or computer to cancel the trial before the time is up and you get a month’s charge.
Oh My Dosh

Funny name right. Dont be fooled by the silly name as this is a genuine site. I made around £40 in 2 hours or so and got paid out promptly when I wanted as well.
Oh My Dosh is a great offers site and is one of my best side hustles when it comes to these sites. You can get 50 pence just for signing up and another 50 pence when you confirm your email. That’s £1 in about 2 minutes. That is just for starters. For an extra £1 bonus simply sign up through my Oh My Dosh Link. So that’s now £2 in no time at all.
There are really handy to navigate sections for hot offers. Also, lightning payouts are quick and easy offers whereby you can get paid very quickly.
Check it out for yourself and sign up here to start earning immediately.
20 Cogs:
Ok so they all have really weird names. Well, 20 cogs are aptly named because cogs are short for Competitions, Offers, Gaming and Surveys!! and 20 because there are 20 offers for you to complete from a list of hundreds.
As each cog opens up you get a choice of more great offers. When you reach 20 cogs completed you can cash out. You can, of course, keep playing past 20 but that is the minimum required to cash out. There is a good chance of making £150 profit by the time the 20 cogs are complete.
You can also earn extra from referring friends and then having them complete the cogs. Sign up here to see how it all works.
Inbox pounds:
Inbox Pounds is very similar to the above sites and there is even a US version called…You guessed it Inbox dollars.
With inbox pounds you simply complete offers like you would with the above sites. There are some slight differences. There is an email section where you can just read emails that are sent to you and earn a few pence for doing so. It won’t make you rich but is easy.
Inbox pounds also has a lot of surveys to complete. These are usually worth only around 20 pence or so. Once you have completed some of them you can get rewarded with higher-paying ones.
All of the above offers sites if given a few hours over the weekend can make you a tidy profit. I think with 5 or 6 hours you could gain around £100. This is a great start as an online side hustle.

Blogging:
Let me start by saying this is can be very profitable but it takes time. Not only time but also patience, A hell of a lot of patience and learning.
When I tell you that blogging is hard I’m not even giving blogging enough credit. It is so hard, but ultimately if you are writing about a topic you are passionate about it can also be very rewarding.
The best thing about blogging as a side hustle is once you have spent many months building your blog and a following any money you make from your blog is passive. Passive side hustles are the best. Yes, they take more work but once that work is done you can earn from them whilst you sleep.
If you already have that niche that you are knowledgeable about and you have the passion to write about it then a blog can be started for a very small outlay. Once you have purchased a domain name you just need to pay a small monthly fee for hosting and away you go.
You will have to learn as you go. There is so much to learn but it is interesting and rewarding when you get little wins such as more viewers or a couple of email subscribers.
If you are looking for hosting for your brand new blog and are eager to get started then head to Siteground to look at their very reasonable plans.
Blogging is a passive side hustle. It does, however, have one of the steepest learning curves ever but if you master it then it can also be the best paying side hustle there is.
Matched Betting:
You knew it was coming, didn’t you? Anybody that has been following me for a while knows that this is where my expertise is. Matched betting is not as scary or as dangerous as it sounds.

It is simply a case of using the bookie’s free bets against them and making a minimum of 70% profit from each one. It is legal and above board and whats more you dont pay any tax on betting in the UK.
Technically this is still betting but in reality, it is not, as you are placing two bets. These two bets cancel each other out and this is what opens up the free bet which the bookies are offering. You then apply the same techniques and walk away with the profit.
All above board and legal, I mean the bookies won’t like you much but it is usually a while before they do anything about it.
Believe it or not, I got a lot of help from Mumsnet. They have some great forums and it turned out that a lot of stay at home moms were doing matched betting and making £1000 or more per month from home.
This is one of the best side hustle ideas for moms. They are at home all day and have the time to take advantage of the system.
For more information on one of the best side hustle ideas out there then feel free to take a read of my in-depth report on Matched betting and its great profit potential.
Selling On Fiverr:

I love Fiverr. If you haven’t heard of Fiverr then I will tell you how it works. Essentially Fiverr is an E-commerce site whereby people will sell their skills for people who need help with all types of things.
You may need an ebook cover designed or you may need someone to write a Seo enabled blog post. Whatever you can think of the chances are someone is selling it on Fiverr.
As an example on one of my early websites, I had someone design me a logo and it cost me about £4. They used to have the motto of everything for a fiver but that has now long gone. You can still get pretty much whatever you want for relatively cheap though.
Of course, there are upsells involved so say you want that logo in different sizes then there may be a separate package for that that costs more.
My best advice would be to spend a couple of hours one evening looking around the site. See if any skills you have could be translated into real money on this site.
Proofreading:
Proofreading is not something I could do as I dont have the patience to do it. It is, however, becoming more popular. You only have to look on websites such as Fiverr to see how big this gig is.
So who wants the services of a proofreader. Well anyone really, businesses, bloggers, website owners. Anyone who is releasing texted articles is going to potentially need the services of a proofreader.
There are lots of free proofreading courses available online. Once you have learned the ropes and done a few gigs on sites such as Fiverr or Upwork you can easily start negotiating your own rates and advertising your services on sites such as Facebook and creating a really good side hustle from home.
Sell On Etsy:
Etsy started out life as a chic E-commerce site where you could handmake crafts to sell on the site. They focused mainly on home furnishings and crafts. It still retains the handmade touch but now there is a big surge in the ability to sell digital products on Etsy.
If you have the flair to be creative and hand-make products for the home then you have a very captive audience to sell them to. If you dont but you have digital products to sell such as templates for logo designs or perhaps an Ebook to sell then this is also the place to do that.
Create a free Etsy account and make your profile stand out and you could be selling your wares or skills in no time at all.
Photography:
If you have a passion for photography and cant wait to get outdoors and take that perfect sunset shot and you have all the gear you need then getting a side hustle in photography isn’t a bad shout.
There are a variety of different avenues you could go down such as wedding photography which you could show off your skills at the many wedding fairs up and down the country.
You could use your photography skills to create an online portfolio to try upload to photo sites and then get paid when people download them to use online.
Again like a lot of side hustles, you can sell your skills online and photography is no different. With most modern DLSR cameras the ability to instantly upload your shots to a website is becoming more common.
Expand On Your Current Job:
For example, my main job is as a Mot Tester. For people outside of Europe, this means I make sure that vehicles are legally fit to be on the road by examining them. I am also qualified as a Mechanic and there are lots of opportunities to do private work and make extra money turning this into a side hustle.
Maybe you work in a flower shop and you could start making your own bouquets to sell. You could work in teaching which means there are plenty of online opportunities for you to teach and charge an hourly rate at the weekends.
When you already have a skill that is making your boss money why not turn it to your advantage and make money for yourself doing this.
Several years ago I used to write gaming articles for a revenue sharing site called Hubpages. I used to make a good amount of money online doing this. I now write this blog and my experience writing on Hubpages has given me the skills required to start and run this blog.
Perhaps you have a day job and your good at it. Why not find a way to do this at the weekends but for yourself. There is no side hustle as good as the one you already know how to do.
Affiliate Marketing:
This is a great side hustle for everyone. You may have heard of affiliate marketing before but never looked into it or you may just not know what it is.
In the simplest terms, it is when someone has a product that they want to sell. It could be a physical product or a digital one. They want help selling it so you sign up as an affiliate with them. You can get a special link or banner to place on your blog, website or social media.
When people click on that link or banner and then go through and make a purchase you will receive a percentage of that sale as commision.
This is affiliate marketing and it sounds difficult but it really isn’t. You may think you need a website or blog pulling in thousands of views each month. This is one way of being successful with affiliate marketing. Bear in mind, you dont need to have a big blog or site to do this.
You may also ask is affiliate marketing worth it. Surely you have to sell loads to make good money. Well not really. One person I tend to follow and be guided by is Michelle Schroader-Gardner. She has a great site called Making sense of cents and makes over $50,000 per month just from affiliate marketing.
So is affiliate marketing worth it? Absolutely.
If you already have a blog or website then great if not then you can always create a twitter account or Instagram account based around the product you are an affiliate with and simply add your affiliate link in your bio.
I will have a post up soon that goes more in-depth with affiliate marketing.
Summary:
When searching for the best side hustle ideas it is essential to look for ones that are going to fit in with your lifestyle. No point in picking a side hustle that needs lots of hours of your time if you dont have hours to spare. Have a go with a couple of the suggestions above. I would love to hear from any of you who have had a bit of success.
