A honeymoon is almost as important as the wedding that proceeded it. A time for husband and wife to spend some quality alone time together for perhaps the first time since the wedding.
Free from work, family and friends and all of lifes other little distractions. It is a perfect time and can be amazing no matter where in the world you choose to be for your honeymoon.
They usually are however expensive. They dont have to be but because of the amount of time and effort that has gone into the wedding, you feel like you both deserve it right? And sure you could honeymoon in the country you live in but after so much stress leading to the wedding, you want to fly away somewhere warm right?
Well, I’m here to tell you a few secrets on how to save money on your honeymoon and still have a perfect time away together.
If you are looking to save money on your wedding then head over here to make big savings on your big day.
Budget:
Right, let us get the boring stuff out of the way first eh!. No married couple wants to start their married life out in debt.
You don’t want to be sitting on a beach in Mexico sipping a cocktail but wondering how you are going to pay for it all.
What you want to be doing is sipping that cocktail while reading your Kindle. Kicking back and getting loads of sun while pondering on your dinner destination. Also pondering how you managed to end up with such a beautiful bride.
So you need to work out how much you can afford. Whatever the budget is stick to it. One way to increase the budget is to ask in a nice way for money as a gift at the wedding.
If you perhaps create a witty poem or ditty in the invites explaining that as a couple that has lived together for a while you have everything one could need for married life and would prefer a donation towards the honeymoon
With the number of guests at most weddings, this would surely lead to you getting a good start towards the funding of your dream honeymoon.
Remember though whatever the budget is make sure you stick to it. This is a key point, to begin with in order to save money on your honeymoon.
Date:
The date you choose to have your honeymoon is very important as prices vary dramatically throughout the year. This is one of the easiest ways to save money on your honeymoon. Most people want some sun in the winter period and also usually want to coincide this with school holidays etc.
Off-peak seasons are the time to go although do check with local and historical weather reports in the region. You don’t want a hurricane on your honeymoon.
There are a lot of destinations however that are lovely and warm all year round and don’t have any drastic weather in the offseason. Usually, there will be fewer crowds as well. This is great if for part of your honeymoon you want to get off the beach and go exploring.
Short Flights:
The shorter the flight usually means the cheaper your ticket will be. Most Americans will take short breaks to Mexico and the Caribbean as its not a long flight in general.
However, for us British people a Mexico trip is a 10-hour flight and hits us in the pocket a lot more. It is generally cheaper for us to head off to sunny Europe destinations for city breaks without breaking the bank.
This is why generally Australians will head to Bali as its relatively close and a beautiful destination. A Europe trip is just too expensive.
Email:
As bold as this sounds once you have made your hotel booking send the hotel a short email. Explain when you are coming and the booking name and that it is your Honeymoon.
Nearly always the hotel will accommodate most requests. Usually, you could expect a room upgrade, or possibly a bottle of wine. Sometimes they will go above and beyond but you shouldn’t expect this. Send the email well in advance and see what kind of response you get.

Flying Out:
Always remember, you have paid a lot for your wedding and honeymoon. As a newlywed couple, you need to be shouting this from the rooftops Mention that you are newlyweds on your honeymoon from the moment you check in at the airport and all the way through to boarding. You never know if you will receive a cheeky upgrade.
Postpone:
Although most people honeymoon directly or a few days after their wedding, this isn’t the way to keep it cheap. Try booking your holiday a few months later. This option means you can spend time choosing the perfect destination as well as choosing the perfect time to go to keep the costs down.
Travel Agent:
Use a travel agent. Sometimes sitting at home trawling through holiday sites can end up being very frustrating. This is especially true for me as I’m pretty fussy.
Not only that but when using internet sites it can be quite difficult trying to tailor the perfect honeymoon. Going into a travel agent, sitting down with a person in front of you and discussing your exact requirements can not only getting the honeymoon that’s perfect for you but also possibly saving some money.
If the first quotes you get from your agent are a little high it is then easier to remove or change the odd detail to lessen the cost.
Cruise:

Consider a cruise. Most cruises are a lot cheaper than a beach holiday. The good thing is as well as being all inclusive most cruises stop off at various different locations. This way you can enjoy being pampered but also getting out and about and seeing lots of different locations.
All Inclusive:
An all-inclusive package is ideal if you want the most from your honeymoon. When you start adding extra meals and drinks on top of an already expensive honeymoon it can break the bank. An all-inclusive holiday means you can just lay back and enjoy your honeymoon without worrying about the extras.
