A Review Of Amazon Ignite
A few years ago the massive tech giant that is Amazon launched a brand new service called Amazon inspire. Amazon Inspire is an open online library of educational resources.
This simply means that anyone with an Amazon account can go in and access these educational resources to help further their education or simply to educate themselves for their own private enjoyment.
Just over a year ago Amazon launched Amazon ignite as a sort of complimentary service to run alongside Amazon Inspire.
With the pandemic still and perhaps way into the future affecting all aspects of normal life having educational tools online has been a blessed relief for many.
Teachers often find themselves doing way more hours outside of school time by sourcing and preparing material that is now available to buy on Amazon Ignite.
For a long time, children have been homeschooled and I suspect a lot more will be after this virus has been defeated. The ability to get help with educational tools and information online has saved many parents from going insane.
Homeschooling has been a big task for many parents to get their head around although some have found it great.

What Is Amazon Ignite?
So what is Amazon Ignite? Amazon Ignite is a new storefront and publishing platform that is linked to Amazon.com.
As you can probably work out it is currently only available in the US, But we like the concept and hope that it arrives on UK shores soon. The program is still in its infancy so expect it to branch out sooner rather than later.
People who create educational resources such as online content, E-books, educational gadgets or materials can sell them on Amazon Ignite.
Of course, Amazon will take a cut of the profits but it is much easier to sell such things on a big site such as Amazon than trying to sell on your own site.
You will also get a review of the product you are selling by Amazon experts so if something is not right or there is an issue with anything it gets resolved super quick.
As Amazon Ignite themselves say:
Amazon Ignite connects educational content creators with Amazon customers. Sell your original teaching resources—like printables, lesson plans, and classroom games—as digital downloads.
Is Amazon Ignite Free?
Yes and no is the short answer to that question. Amazon Ignite is currently invitation-only at the moment and like I said above only available for people living in the US.
Because it is invite only you have to click the request invitation button and then fill out a short form requesting to join.
If you are able to join then currently there is no fee and this is completely free. There is a small catch though.
When you have joined up and you sell any items or digital educational tools or material there is a fee that Amazon will take from you.
At the moment content creators will make a 70% royalty on all sales made unless the said item sells for under $2.99, If that is the case then Amazon take 30 cents as a fee.
Think of it as the fee Amazon take is for the use of their storefront which looks nice and professional and they will steer customers your way. It is far easier than trying to set up your own store or another platform to sell your teaching materials.
What Can I Sell On Amazon Ignite?
If you are a teacher or have been in the past you can sell literally anything. You don’t even have to be a teacher but clearly selling educational tools and materials is easier to do if you have a background in that area.
Most teachers are already creating resources to use in their own classrooms so why not once you have used it just package this resource up and sell it online to other teachers who are perhaps under time constraints etc and are just looking to make their lives a little bit easier.
You can sell any digital resources that you yourself have created. These digital resources can then be uploaded to the storefront in any of the following formats. .doc, .docx, .pdf, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, and .zip.
The different resources you might sell could be maths or science-related. Language or general organisational tips are also good sellers. You could publish digital lesson plans which is a real time saver for many teachers, or worksheets to help with that class.
Any kind of educational resource that you have made yourself is a great thing to sell and will help countless parents and other teachers to educate those that need it.
So now you know what Amazon Ignite is and how to sell digital resources on the platform let answer the question of how is the platform for the user. User experience is key when you are trying to sell and make money so this needs to be right for you as a seller.
It needs to be a good user experience with no issues because if it isn’t then you risk not making many sales as a seller.
After all, if the user is enjoying Amazon ignite and the platform then they are more likely to stick around and make a purchase. Not only that but if it is easy to navigate then there is always the potential for the consumer to come back and buy from you again.
As far as I have seen Amazon Ignite has a good user experience and is easy to navigate through the site. When you see a product or digital download etc that you like the look of then you can inspect it closer and see exactly what the content is before you purchase which is key for people buying online teaching content.
A Review Of Amazon Ignite
I have known a couple of parents I interact with online that have downloaded some material of Amazon Ignite for helping with their homeschooling and they were very pleased that information was there and was cheap and easy to access.
Hopefully, this platform will branch out across Europe as well as the US as it is certainly something we could do with having access to in the UK.
